The family motto at Springvale is “Aperto vivere voto”. These Latin words part of the Lyne family seal and is the motto the family lives by – to live as an honest person, like an open book!
The Lyne family seek to produce the highest quality wines, and promote the Freycinet Coast and Tasmania as food & wine destinations while preserving the qualities that make family businesses unique and rewarding. They are also progressives in winemaking, viticulture and farming.
William Lyne arrived in ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ (Tasmania) in 1826 with his wife and five children. The Springvale property at Cranbrook, between Bicheno and Swansea, has been in Lyne hands since 1875 resulting in a richly interwoven history of innovation, struggle and achievement for the area (the oldest rural municipality in Australia) ever since.
The fifth generation of William Lyne’s descendents are currently custodians of the property. The vineyard produces pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris, sauvignon blanc and guwurtztraminer, and there is a cellar door and seafood restaurant on site.
