Vineyard of the Month for October – The Bend

Low yields produce Cabernet and Riesling of exceptional quality at Cranbrook, south of Bicheno. Too small to have a distributor at this stage, The Farm Shed is one of very few places to obtain this exclusive drop.

‘The Bend’ property is located near Swansea, bordered by the Swan River (the bend in the river) and King Bay, part of Moulting Lagoon.

Established in 1998 on the fine wool sheep grazing property by the Edginton & Sinclair families, the vineyard sits on a hill above the 1860’s homestead on a north east facing slope providing good cold air drainage down towards the river thus reducing the risk of frost.

Vines run north to south for full sun exposure. The small two and a half hectare vineyard of 16,000 vines produced 350 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 250 cases of Riesling in 2016.

Vines are hand tendered throughout the growing season right up to and including harvest and continues on through pruning, using organic principles from fertilizers to pest control.
