Our Vineyard of the Month for November is Gala Estate, where “Quality not quantity” is the byword for winemakers Adam and Grainne Greenhill.
In 1821, Gala Estate was granted to James Amos. Originally from Galashiels in the borders of Scotland, the Greenhill family make up the fifth, sixth and seventh generations of descendants still living, loving and farming this land.
The farm lays in a valley on the banks of the Swan River at Cranbrook and originally produced flour for the gold rush and ran sheep for wool.
Today the focus is on fine merino wool, award winning wines and a little cropping on the side. Gala Estate boasts a friendly, relaxed cellar door oozing character operated by a family striving to pass on the farm to the next generation in a better and more sustainable manner.
